HIGH BRIDGE GLENS PARK

From the American Legion Hall entrance north to Prospect St. Bridge is the old Highbridge Glens Park that attracted thousands of visitors daily during  the Gay 90's and although it has lost a lot of its scenic beauty by industrial development along the west bank, the east bank is beautiful even in wintertime and the old Chuckery run that was built in the 1840's is still very much in existence as a historical monument and is so registered with the United States Park Service's National Register. Devils Steps lead from the east bank down to the Chuckery. From the Prospect observation bridge one can still see a lot of the old glamour when looking south and then looking north you can still see the river power that attracted our founders 200 years ago. Eight dams were built between 1824 and 1830 to capture this water power. Outside of these dams there is little evidence of the once thriving industrial development that lined both banks, but the rock ledges and dancing water is still a thing of beauty to see.
