Odd Fellows

The International Order of Odd Fellows (I.O.O.F.) was established here on the third floor of the old Apollo Building on the southeast corner of Front and Portage Streets in the spring of 1846.

The club over the years was a very active civic minded organization and in 1916 the members built a modern three-story brick club hall at 135 Portage Trail and it became a center for many local activities including church services.

The club then became abandoned but the building still served the community as an office building. On October 15, 1850 the Order of Free and Accepted Masons was chartered in the Apollo Building.

It was officially listed as Star Lodge No. 187. They then owned a modern Masonic Tmple at 2307 Sackett Ave. which also housed its brother lodge, Cuyahoga Falls Lodge No. 735 F. and A.M. which was chartered October 18, 1951.

Cuyahoga Falls also had a very active Shrine Club which is a portion of Tadmore Shrine Temple, A.A.O.N.M.S.

The Mason's ladies lodge, the Order of Eastern Star, Cuyahoga Falls Chapter No. 245 was also housed in the Sackett Ave. Temple. IT was charted in 1906 with Mrs. Ellen Knight Crawford as its first Matron with I.C. Haines as her Patron.
